Reverse Engineering at Century-Tywood
Our meticulous approach at Century-Tywood ensures accuracy and quality at each step. Let’s explore how our team handles reverse engineering from the first conversation to completion.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
Our team begins with an in-depth consultation to understand our customers’ requirements and objectives. This phase involves gathering information about the component or assembly that needs to be reverse-engineered, including its function, application, and potential challenges. During this step, we ask that our customers ship the part to our shop and schedule a meeting with our team to kick off the project.
Step 2: Measuring and Modeling
The Century-Tywood team will collect all relevant information from the existing part using advanced measurement techniques such as 3D scanning and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). These tools allow us to capture precise dimensions and geometrical details and create a digital representation of this part with exceptional accuracy.
Our engineering team then uses this data to create a detailed CAD model in SolidWorks. This model serves as a blueprint for reproducing the part or making necessary modifications to enhance its performance. At this stage, our team ensures that all tolerances included in these models are sheet metal tolerances that are attainable by our standard fabrication processes.
Step 3: Initial Review
Once we have the models, we submit the drawings to the customer for review. If the customer is satisfied, we can proceed with production. If the customer has any revisions to our design, we work closely with them to ensure we’ve resolved any potential issues before proceeding with any fabrication processes.
Step 4: Prototype Development
Once the CAD model is finalized and approved, our team moves on to the prototyping phase. We produce a prototype of the part using our precision metal fabrication capabilities. This prototype is rigorously tested to ensure it meets all functional and performance criteria before we ultimately ship it to the customer for their approval. As with the previous step, if the prototype meets their specifications, we move on to the next phase, but if it’s not quite perfect, we will tweak the design and produce another prototype until it receives a seal of approval.
Step 5: Final Production
After successfully testing and validating the prototype, our team proceeds to full-scale production. Using our advanced manufacturing processes, including wire EDM services, precision metal stamping, and high-level assembly services, our team fabricates an exceptional final product that meets the highest standards of quality and precision.
