How Our Equipment Investments Improve the Outcomes of Our Sheet Metal Fabrication Services

One of the greatest feelings as a contract manufacturer is having customers visit our facilities and admire our equipment. When they take a look at our latest updates, they can see for themselves how we’re actively investing in the future.

Acquiring new equipment is essential to providing customers with the fastest, highest quality, and most accurate results. Ultimately, investing in machinery is essential to staying competitive in an industry that is constantly evolving.

Here at Century-Tywood, we tirelessly support our customers’ success with each new purchase. When we’re best equipped to do exceptional work, we ensure precision and efficiency. Let’s explore the recent investments we’ve made at Century-Tywood and the implications they have on your precision metal fabrication needs.

Updates to Our Precision Metal Fabrication Facilities

The Century-Tywood team is always seeking new ways to be as efficient as possible. This motivation led us to invest in the following facility improvements:

FaroArm® Inspection Equipment

One of our shop’s main strengths is our top-notch quality. Our quality standards are the primary reason we have a low rejection rate of only 0.1%.

equipment

We invested in a FaroArm® Quantum M Max coordinate measuring machine to process information more quickly and automatically during inspection. This piece of equipment scans and probes components, comparing the actual manufactured part to the corresponding 3-D model.

Some of the major value-adds we’ve seen with the addition of the FaroArm® CMM include:

  • Substantial time savings during the first article inspection.

  • Cost savings through reduced labor expenses, as this automated tool allows our inspection personnel to perform FAI in a fraction of the time.

  • Greater accuracy, as this equipment does all scanning and calculating for us, decreasing the prevalence of human error.

  • Increasing our capacity in inspection and reducing any associated bottlenecks.

Laser Engraving Machine

Our outsourced laser etching processes had become a bottleneck of ours, causing disruptions internally that we feared would produce a ripple effect on our customers. This prompted us to move this operation in-house.

Purchasing a Beamer L-Series laser marker and adding this capability to our sheet metal fabrication services yielded the following results:

  • The ability to fully control this process internally.

  • Reducing lead times by removing the need to deliver components to and from our external vendor.

Fiber Optic Laser

While we already had laser cutting capabilities in-house, adding our ENSIS Fiber Optic laser to our facilities further supported our goals in these ways:

  • The added capability of laser cutting copper, which our other laser cannot manage. Laser cutting allows for more detailed, intricate cuts than we could achieve on copper materials through other fabrication methods.

  • The ability to laser cut four times faster than we could with our CO2 laser.

Miscellaneous Equipment Purchases As Needed

Because our teams are always looking for ways we can improve our services and maintain our impeccable quality, we regularly purchase updates and upgrades to our facilities, such as:

equipment
  • Press brakes: The Century-Tywood team consistently seeks out new press brakes to update our current ones as they become more antiquated or as new technologies emerge.

  • Power press: This is an example of an equipment purchase we made to respond to a customer’s specific need. When a valued customer increased their capacity, we purchased a highly efficient power press to meet their demand.

Investments in Our People

Our powerful equipment would not benefit our customers without the right team members onboard. That’s why, aside from the strategic purchases of technology and machinery, our investment in team members is a top priority for Century-Tywood today and in the future.

The Added Value of Utilizing a Well-Equipped Precision Sheet Metal Fabricator

Purchasing cutting-edge machines isn’t just about adding new, shiny things to our shop floor. These tactical investments (as well as the ones we will make in the future) add significant value to our customers, namely:

  • Increased efficiency: By opening up bottlenecks, we are actively producing long-term success for ourselves and our customers.

  • Greater quality: Moving some of our services in-house ensures that all processes go through the same rigorous quality control standards we are known for.

  • Time savings: Newer, more powerful machines produce excellent results in shorter cycle times. Additionally, moving services in-house cuts out the delivery time it would take to move our parts to and from our vendor.
